About Us The Backyard story begins with native New Yorker, Steve Boyle moving from Cornwall, NY to the warm environs of Marco Island, FL as a young boy. Steve grew up in shorts and flip-flops, spending a lot of time boating and hanging out at the beach with his friends. It was during this time that he also began experimenting with the wonders of his mom’s Fry Baby. At high school graduation, while most of his friends went off to college to learn more about their country, Steve (or Boyle as his friends called him) decided it was worth protecting and made the bold move of joining the United States Coast Guard. With the question to his high school Spanish teacher, “Ms. Suarez, when am l ever going to need to know Spanish?” still lingering in his head, Boyle was stationed at USCG Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico. Boyle quickly adapted to the exotic culture of his new home by donning the native attire (shorts and flip-flops), hanging out a lot at the beach with his friends and throwing parties where he would cook the local cuisine in his new Fry Daddy. After twenty years, retirement came and Boyle said goodbye to his Coast Guard buddies (as well as half the island of Puerto Rico) and looked for a new challenge. He settled in Palm Harbor where, between outings at the beach with his many friends, sometimes wearing only shorts and flip-flops, Boyle perfected the recipes he had created over the last twenty years in his own, self-made Fry Gran-daddy (at least that’s what his friends called it!). Boyle’s Backyard was born from this epic story. Come on in, sit down and relax (shorts and flip-flops are just fine). Stop by with your friends after a day in the boat or hanging at the beach and make a few more (you can never have enough, right?). Grab a beer, watch the game, Boyle is here ready to serve you some of his classic cuisine - try the wings, conch fritters, or grouper sandwich (he now has three fryers all to himself). |
